By The Numbers: Liv Tennet

Liv Tennet, born and raised in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland is an actor, singer, dancer and choreographer. Her TV and film credits include Brokenwood Mysteries, Talkback, My Life is Murder, Double Parked, Creamerie and independent feature Workmates. In 2025, Liv played the titular Mary Godwin in Mary: The Birth of Frankenstein for Auckland Theatre Company, and will next be seen opposite Stephen Lovatt in JOB for Silo Theatre, directed by Shane Bosher. Liv is also known as the voice of Kiri opposite Jermaine Clement's Lou in popular animated children's show Kiri and Lou.

1. How many podcasts do you subscribe to?

Only one - DELVE. I admire Melanie Reid (investigative journalist)'s work so much.

By choice, probably 4-5. But my son requests podcast episodes every time we're in the car so an episode might be on, but I can't say I'm actively "listening" lol.

1,095 on Instagram, but recently just deactivated my account.

4. How many caffeinated beverages do you consume, on average, daily?

2, very recently cut down from 3. I had withdrawal headaches for 3 days which was concerning.

Always the limit - 35 between myself, my partner Tom and our son, Alwyn.

6. If I'm getting to the end of a book and I don't have the next one lined up, I get antsy.

Hmm..probably 20-25? I did a long haul flight to a film festival which increased that number significantly.

Approx 20 novels. But hundreds of picture books and primary school level readers with my son. Since recently leaving social media, I'm now reading a book a week and I'm loving it.

12. How many games have you played so far this year?

We play Monopoly Deal, Spot It, Exploding Kittens or Labyrinth as a family at least 3-4 times a week. So nearly 100?!

57. I ran a community dance class for a year so most of them are from that.

That is super hard to calculate but I'd say roughly 25? Wish it was more. That's theatre, music gigs, free events. My partner is a musician so I always try to get to his gigs if we can afford the babysitter!

I don't even know what that is.

It varies wildly. Anywhere between 1-30. That's including emails that don't relate to work which I'll just delete without reading. I'm getting better at hitting that unsubscribe button. The way it usually works is when I'm on set or in rehearsals and unable to attend to emails, I'll receive 20, and when I've got a quiet day at home, I'll receive 0. Funny that.

Again, probably anywhere between 1-15.

Going to the supermarket is my LEAST favourite task, so I avoid it at all costs. I only do 1 online shop every Sunday and then I'll maybe have to do a 'top up' shop on a Wednesday/Thursday if I need something specific for a meal.

Between 45-55.

32. How many unread notifications do you currently have on your phone?

NONE. EVER. Waaaay too stressful. It's like I can HEAR that little read notification and it's a constant alarm going off until I've dealt with it.

Learnt violin until I was 16 so can still play that badly. Can tinkle on the piano and trying to learn some basic guitar chords. So what I'm saying is....zero. But 3 as a beginner.

Embarrassingly only 1 - English. Currently learning Welsh (my ancestral language) via Duolingo with my son, Alwyn.

1 to sleep, 2 to sit up in bed.

Oh gosh - I think 3 times... But everlasting, forever love, just once. I did fall in love with my son when he was born too - it completely cracked me open. Maternal love is a raw, instinctual drive focused entirely on survival, fierce protection, and physical nurturing and I suddenly realised I could maybe kill someone to save my kid. Woah.

7-9. I don't function well on little sleep.
